When the sound of sleigh-bells begins to get a little louder the folks at AgeUK put out their seasonal plea for a little financial and practical kindness for the less fortunate or lonely older members of our community in Andover, Hampshire.
Each year we are delighted to sponsor the Christmas food parcels scheme which, with help from friends at the Rotary Club, Andover Charities Trustees and Waitrose guarantee a goody bag full of Christmas food essentials and some yuletide treats to brighten up cold days and nights.
A team of six from Stannah joins forces with staff from Waitrose and AgeUK volunteers to complete the 70+ parcels and then distribute them to deserving recipients. Janice Kane, Gary Kinghorn pack the parcels, whilst Linda Halpin, Darren Hutchence, Michelle Penn and Nicky Holdway take on the delivery and try to stop for a little chat, which is appreciated so much by those who receive the goodies.
"Thanks must go to our managers” says Michelle Penn, organiser of the Stannah volunteers “for the gift of volunteer time and the use of company vehicles for the deliveries. This small gesture really does make a great difference to many people. It makes our Christmas too!"
