Team Stannah has done it again! A group of enthusiastic cyclists from across the business took part in a charity cycle ride on Friday 7th July, to raise funds for Crohn’s & Colitis UK. So far, the dedicated team of riders, has managed to raise an impressive amount of almost £5,000. Thanks to the pledge from Stannah to match funds raised by 150 per cent (to mark this year’s 150th anniversary); the grand total could reach a whopping £12,500.
The keen band of cyclists began their gruelling 150km cycling challenge, bright and early on the morning of the 7th July. A total of 15 riders set off at 06:30am on the 120km route from the original Stannah site in Tiverton street, London (1867), to the Stannah Head Office in Andover, where they were then joined by 6 more cyclists from team Stannah. The additional cyclists joined in the team’s effort for the final 30km of the route and to complete the 150km total. Despite the heat on the day, team Stannah managed to complete the charity cycle ride by around 4:20pm on Friday afternoon.
The funds raised will help to support the important work that Crohn’s & Colitis UK do. Originally founded as a patients’ association in 1979, they are now the UK’s leading charity in the battle against Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. As well as supporting its 32,000 members across the UK, the charity also supports their families and friends, health professionals and others who support their work and research.
As well as wanting to raise funds for the charity, the group’s organiser (Product Development Director), Ross Pascoe explained that the charity cycle ride had been organised to raise awareness for Crohn’s & Colitis UK due to the personal experiences of members of the team who had been affected by these conditions:
“We wanted to highlight just how many people are affected by Crohn’s Disease and Colitis and the impact that these conditions can have on their lives. We received a tremendous amount of support on the day and this really helped to make the challenge easier to achieve. From the banners and kind words we received when we reached Stannah’s head office to the many generous donations. Thanks to everyone who has supported the team in raising such a staggering amount for our chosen charity.
Also, a big thanks to our wonderful support team on the day, who helped to carry our essential food and water supplies along the way, as well as helping us out with the odd puncture. We couldn’t have completed this challenge without their help and support!”
Alastair Stannah also joined the team of intrepid cyclists on the day and said:
“It was great to be part of such a dedicated and enthusiastic team. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day with a great bunch of colleagues. Thanks to all of those who have supported the team in raising so much for Crohn’s and Colitis UK and I hope that the money raised will help the charity with the important work that they do.”
